Here’s When You Can Legally Shoot Off New Year’s Eve Fireworks In Iowa
Don't get too fireworks-happy this week.
Love them or hate them, you know you're going to hear fireworks on New Year's Eve and quite possibly for a few nights after. As a lot of us have agreed on every 4th of July ever, fireworks are fun. But you're a definite pain in someone's neck if you're setting them off at awful times.
NYE Shenanigans Rules
You know the party fouls. Of course, remember to have a designated driver if you're going to be drinking a lot of bubbly on NYE. Don't drunk text your ex (they don't need a happy new year text either). And if you're going to have the fun of setting off New Year's Eve fireworks, don't be the person that wakes the whole neighborhood up with them.
Iowa law says that people can set off consumer fireworks Dec. 10th-Jan. 3rd every year, between 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. on NYE, including the following Saturday and Sunday.
Now that's Iowa law. Bettendorf & Davenport ordinances around NYE fireworks are stricter. Both Davenport & Bettendorf only allow fireworks from 10:00 p.m. Dec. 31st-12:30 a.m. Jan. 1.
Remember, it's illegal to set off fireworks in Illinois in general, so don't go there.
Fines for breaking the law and ordinances can cost you hundreds of bucks so it's probably not worth trying it if it's outside of the legal timeframe. We're all happy that 2024 is done and there's a new year ahead, but there's no sense starting it in trouble. If you're not already.
