WATCH: Illinois Resident Crawls Under Metra Train In Wild Video
She wasn't about to miss this train.
Sometimes if you're really in a hurry, you can't think about anything else and common sense goes out the window. Maybe that's the case for this lady in Chicagoland.
Video shared by the Village of Hinsdale police department (as part of "Think Train Week") shows a woman running on the train platform in front of a stopped train at Garfield Crossing.
She appears to then slide or crawl under the train, presumably to get to the other side of the platform.
As you can probably guess, it's not a good idea to do (duh?) and you can actually get fined for it. Metra engineers won't let people who cross the tracks like this even get on the train.
Deputy Chief Tom Lillie told NBC Chicago:
If that person can't make that train, our suggestion would be just wait for the next one. By sliding under the train like that, you risk serious injury or death
The police (obviously) recommend crossing only at designated locations, obey the signs, and look both ways before crossing.
Here's the video from the police department:
The lady with the lapse in judgment has not been identified.
"Think Train Week" is a safety campaign to remind people to not do what this girl did, and instead remind you to follow the signs and rules, and remember that approaching trains may be closer than you think they are.
Police tell you (as should common sense) that catching a train isn't worth risking your life. Be patient.
