If you live in Illinois and you have used Snapchat, you might be eligible to join in a class action privacy lawsuit against Snap, Inc.

It's looking like it will be Illinois folks versus Snapchat. You could be eligible to join the class action suit if you: live in Illinois and have used Snapchat lenses and filters within the last few years. (Is there anyone on Snap who hasn't used the filters?)

WQAD reports that the lawsuit alleges that Snapchat broke Illinois' Biometric Information Privacy Act through it's filters and lenses by collecting and storing users' biometric data. If you're wondering what the heck biometrics are: they are a person's unique characteristics, like fingerprints, that can be used for techy stuff to recognize you. Like when your phone's Face I.D. sees your eyes and unlocks.

If it's approved the settlement will divide $35 million among the class members, lawyer fees, class representatives, administrative fees and taxes.

Claimants in the lawsuit won't be charged for representation, with those fees coming from the final settlement. Milberg Coleman Bryson Phillips Grossman PLLC will be representing Illinois residents.

If you want to be included in the lawsuit, you have to submit a completed claim form no later than Nov. 5. You can do that online or mail it to: Snapchat Privacy Settlement, c/o Administrator, 1650 Arch St, Suite 2210, Philadelphia PA, 19103.

Meanwhile, the final approval hearing for the lawsuit is set for Nov. 17 at 9:00 a.m. at the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in Wheaton, Illinois. You can learn more about the settlement on its website here.
