It’s Illegal To Take Photos At These Illinois Spots
It's not a great idea to take photos in risky places, but in some Illinois locations, it's downright illegal.
Surprise, surprise, the state of Illinois has laws in place when it comes to things like trespassing. So often, I'll scroll through Instagram and come across influencers posting risky or just flat terribly-advised pictures because of the ~aesthetic~. It's beyond ridiculous and at this point, it's way overdone.
So before you head out on your great quest in a full length dress or snappy outfit to capture the perfect 'gram, let's review some places that it's actually illegal for you to take some pics.
Rail Tracks
This takes me back to my senior year in 2010. Bringing old luggage to the railroad track was such a trendy thing to do for senior pics. Because, you know, wanderlust and whatever.
If you want to be technical, it's illegal to do this in Illinois. In part, their law says:
It is generally prohibited for anyone to walk, drive or ride along the right-of-way or rail yard of any railroad.
It could be a $500 fine. Icky.
The Polling Place
WQAD reports that this is an illegal picture spot in both Iowa and Illinois. This is why both states have set up little selfie stations at polling places where you can take a snapshot. Because did you really vote if you didn't sticker selfie?
While You're Driving
This should go without having to be said but don't take pics or selfies while you're driving. Cellphone use while you're driving is considered distracted driving under Illinois law.
Certain Public Places
Just because somewhere is considered a public place, doesn't mean you can just take snapshots whenever you want. Check this list of public places in Chicago and Illinois to see your photo guidelines before you go.
