Meet the 12-Year-Old Bird Caller Taking Over the Internet

A 12-year-old boy from Oklahoma has become one of the internet's most unexpected viral stars thanks to an incredible talent that few people can match.

Samuel Henderson, a young bird enthusiast from the Oklahoma City area, recently wowed classmates during his school's talent show by performing a series of realistic bird calls. The video has since exploded online, collecting nearly 30 million views on TikTok and spreading across Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit.

Samuel's talent isn't new. He first gained national attention in 2024 after appearing on CBS News with Steve Hartman. Following his latest viral performance, Samuel and his mother spoke with CBS News again about the growing attention.

How Did Samuel Learn So Many Bird Calls?

Samuel became fascinated with birds when he was around six years old and began teaching himself how to imitate their sounds.

His skill has grown rapidly over the years. By age 10, he had mastered more than 50 different bird calls. Today, at 12 years old, Samuel reportedly knows an astonishing 114 bird calls.

Why Is His Talent Show Performance Going Viral?

In the now-famous video, Samuel takes the stage with bird props and confidently performs call after call. While his accuracy is impressive, many viewers say the best part is the reaction from the audience.

Classmates can be heard cheering, laughing, and then falling silent as Samuel flawlessly mimics one bird after another. Many online commenters have praised the students for supporting someone who proudly shares a unique passion.

More Than Just a Viral Moment

Samuel's mother, Lori Henderson, has shared that he has autism and Tourette syndrome. She first realized how remarkable his ability was when birds would respond to his calls during trips to parks and parking lots.

Samuel keeps a journal of the bird calls he learns and even tests his accuracy using a bird-identification app from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. In some cases, the app recognizes his imitations as if they were actual birds.

While this latest video may be introducing Samuel to millions of new fans, it's not his first viral moment. His 2024 talent show performance also captured national attention, proving that his unique talent continues to amaze audiences everywhere.
