Iowa Funeral Home Opens Door To Marry A Couple When Judge No Showed
A couple from Marshalltown ran into a snafu of sorts on their wedding day, but thanks to the people in their village, they were able to pull through and get married anyway.
Alexis and Rean Webb had an appointment to tie the knot at the Marshall County Courthouse at 4pm last Thursday, in what they hoped would just be a low-key ceremony with their loved ones.
They got all of their family together, and while they waited for their 4 pm appointment, took a photo to commemorate the moment. The only problem was, a few minutes later, they'd learn they wouldn't be getting married at the courthouse.
Their judge called ahead that they weren't coming, and there were no other judges available. The (soon-to-be) Webbs' plans had a wrench thrown completely through them. They figured their only option would be to cancel.
Then, Alexis' dad jumped up with an idea.
“My dad instantly jumped up, and he was like, ‘I know somebody: Jody,’” Alexis Webb told KCRG.
Jody Anderson is a friend of the family, and he's ordained. He and his wife, Amy, are also the owners and operators of Anderson Funeral Homes, where they're the funeral directors as well.
After a quick phone call, Jody told them to meet him at the funeral home. When he arrived himself, the parking lot was full of family members.
He went in, and opened up the funeral home's chapel, welcomed everyone in, and took some time to talk with Alexis and Rean.
“I took 5-10 minutes, met with them, discussed the importance, made sure they were both for real,” Anderson said.
30 minutes from the first phone call, Alexis and Rean Webb were married.
“It was even better than we expected because we kind of did get a real wedding in a sense. We’re in a chapel. I got to walk down the aisle with my dad. The girls got to be flower girls. My son got to be the ring bearer, and his son got to be his best man. I mean, what more could we ask for?” Alexis Webb told KCRG.
