This is so scary. We Are Iowa reports that a man was taken into custody by Iowa State Troopers after sneaking a loaded gun and knife into the Iowa State Fair this past weekend.

Fairgoers got a bad feeling from the man, which led to officers attempting to question him. The man immediately took off on foot after being approached by police. After being apprehended by the officers, he was found to be carrying the weapons.

Although fairgoers are banned from bringing weapons into the fairgrounds, it's a hard rule to enforce since there are no metal detectors.

This begs the question- if there's no way of checking for dangerous objects when you enter a public space, what measures can we put in place to prevent violence? In this case, it truly seems like the old adage "If you see something, say something" made all the difference.
