‘Man In Bean’ Theory Garners Viral Protests In Illinois
Obviously this was during Lolla weekend.
Lollapalooza, Chicago's huge annual music festival, has wrapped up but not without a specific viral moment of it's own. One that had nothing to do with the performers.
When you think of reasons to protest stuff, you probably think of politics. Not this time. This is being called "Cloudgate". And get this theory:
The protests happened because of the idea that there is a man in the Chicago bean sculpture. The belief is that he was a baby stolen during construction of the Bean and has been held captive inside for decades.
Don't believe me? Here's the protest from over the weekend, as captured by an NBC Chicago journalist:
rightttt.
An Instagram account supporting the 'man in bean' cause has garnered tens of thousands of followers. Chicago Alderman Brendan Reilly says his office has gotten a huge uptick in calls to free the man in the bean sculpture.
His statement said in part:
I am happy to confirm that a man has not been trapped inside ‘Cloud Gate’ (a.k.a ‘the Bean’) for the past 21 years. In fact, the man was freed years ago. Further, we can neither confirm nor deny that Soldier Field is actually a flying saucer secretly relocated from Area 51 back in 2003.
It makes you wonder: what in the world was the stuff at Lolla laced with??
Alderman Reilly said he appreciates public engagement but the calls about it are deterring his office from getting actual work done.
Meanwhile, the group of protesters has not been seen at the Bean sculpture this week.
