National Promposal Day: Me Doing A Promposal In High School [VIDEO]
As we inch closer towards April and May, you will start to see more promposal videos on social media and maybe even in person! Today (March 11th) is National Promposal Day which made me think back to when I actually sang for a promposal when I was in high school. For me, and I'm sure the girl in the video, this is cringe worthy but for the sake of the holiday, here we go...
If you are a junior or senior in high school, you always look forward to prom. Spending a lot of money on dresses, tuxedos, flowers, makeup, dinner, limo and so much more. As parents it probably feels like a mini version of a wedding in a way.
An exciting thing leading up to prom is doing a promposal. For those of you who aren't familiar with the term, a promposal is basically asking someone to prom in an extravagant way.
Like in the compilation video above, people use signs, music, their friends, and any other crazy idea that people can think of. Promposals are sweet and it's a fun thing to experience as a high schooler! Sometimes they don't always go right and for the person planning the promposal, it can be very stressful.
In high school, I planned a promposal which was fun but involved me singing at the Junior Varsity Show at Clinton High School. The song you ask? Just A Kiss by Lady Antebellum. It was a karaoke version and I can tell you this right now, I can't sing. Just because you're in radio and you're around music so much does not translate to being able to sing.
The girl in the video, my girlfriend at the time, she can sing. I can't stress enough how much I can't sing. I can't sing so much that if you listen closely, you can't even hear me. Why? My buddy was in the sound both in the theater at Clinton High School and he told me as soon as he heard me start to sing, "Oh no turn him off now! Bro, I was doing you a favor!" He was doing everyone a favor.
Luckily he turned the microphone up at the end for me to ask her to prom. I had my other buddy bring up flowers when I asked her. It was cute, she said yes and we went to prom.
To watch the promposal I pulled off in high school, check out the video below.
And to whoever is planning a promposal, there you go for an idea. If plan on signing but you don't know how to or can't sing, ask your friend to control the volume so no one can hear you. Or use a sign like basically everyone else.
Happy National Promposal Day!
