Even though school has started and summertime has seemed to come to an end, Mother Nature isn't ready to get rid of the hot temperatures. The Quad Cities will be under a heat advisory today and the heat isn't going away anytime soon. Plus, storms are in the forecast for the rest of the week because of high humidity levels.

The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities has issued a Heat Advisory for counties throughout the Quad Cities area. The advisory will go into effect today, Tuesday, August 24 at 12 p.m. and end this evening at 8 p.m.

The extreme heat will be mainly south of Highway 20. Heat indices will reach between 100-105° throughout the Quad Cities today. With the heat index readings being so high, officials remind you to limit time outdoors, wear sunscreen, hydrate, and look in your backseat before you lock up your car for kids and pets.

The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities is also saying that these warm temperatures could stick around the rest of the week into the weekend, depending on storm trends. As of now, the National Weather Service of the Quad Cities is predicting highs to be in the mid to low 90's until Sunday.

On top of the warm temps, the National Weather Service of the Quad Cities is predicting some possible strong storms this afternoon and into the night. Right now, there is a low risk for severe weather in eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois. If these storms do pop up, they could bring with them damaging winds, heavy local rainfall, and lightning.
