I have good news and bad news for you. I'll start with the bad news so we can end on a good note.

The bad news: 53rd Street in Davenport is still being worked on creating a headache for motorists, businesses, and crews. The good news: Road crews are in the final stages of this project on 53rd to hopefully not have to work on it for a while.

On Thursday, the Davenport Public Works Department announced that work on the final phases of the E 53rd Street reconstruction project is moving full steam ahead.

To get us closer to the end of this project, lane reductions are being added as work on the next segment begins. Only one lane of travel in each direction and intersections will be maintained during these final phases, according to officials. Starting next week, another section of 53rd will start to get more work done on it.

Davenport Public Works officials say that work in the eastbound lanes of Segment 5 (see above), between Jersey Ridge Rd and Lorton Ave, will begin the week of May 15. Reconstruction is expected to flip to the north (westbound lanes) in mid-July, weather permitting.

Officials say that work in the eastbound lanes of Segment 4 (see above), between Eastern Ave and Jersey Ridge Rd, will continue through mid-July, weather permitting. Once paving and the adjacent recreation trail are complete, work will flip to the north.

Mark your calendars because both phases are estimated to be complete by late October, pending weather.
