Do you realize it could happen to you and your children?

Watching this video over and over again, has me dumbfounded. Who the hell thinks it's ok to take someone's child? Who the hell thinks they can do it in a public place? Who the hell thinks they can get away with this?

Questions like that and more raced through my weary-mama-brain when I saw this yesterday. How did no one help her? Did the girl have any previous affiliation with this man?  Who was he? Did he get caught?

How, as parents, do we prepare our children for this? I can and do teach my children how to fight back, how to stay close, how to ask strangers for help and how to be aware of their surroundings. As parents, we ask ourselves, 'Is it ever enough? Is what I taught them going to kick in when it matters most?'

Fear is a strange emotion. I refuse to walk around this big world fearing the boogie man at every turn. I don't want that kind of life for my children. There are kind people in the world. I have seen far more kindness than not and I don't want to lose hope in all humanity because of people like this. However, knowing the human sex trafficking statistics and risk dangers, is a good start to raise awareness in you, your children and our community.

It's amazing what we can do when our adrenaline and full-blown 'mama bear' instincts kick in. It's true for me and any parent. This was reported on Good Morning America's Facebook page yesterday.

Just like this Mom, protecting your child isn't an option.
