There are not many fundraising walks that take place in December in the Quad Cities.  But when the point of the walk is to show how brutal it can be to have to walk in Iowa and Illinois in winter, that is the perfect time to schedule a walk.

That is why Christian Care will be stepping into the shoes of the unsheltered with their "Frigid Feet" walk.

Who is Christian Care?

Christian Care is a nonprofit based out of Rock Island.  Their mission is to provide safe shelter, support, and resources to empower the homeless and make positive changes in every aspect of their lives.

The group provides shelter for over 300 men, women and children and has a free meal site that is open to the community.  Christian Care annually serves over 40,000 meals to the Quad Cities.

There are two shelter's in the Quad Cities.  The Men's Mission shelter has reserved beds for Veterans. Martha's House is strictly for women and children.

Walk in the cold for the cause.

December 17th will likely be chilly, or straight-up cold, in the Quad Cities.  That is why the walk is taking place that day.

Frigid Feet is a walk designed to raise awareness as to what the homeless community experiences on a day-to-day basis during the brutal winter months in Iowa and Illinois.

The walk will start at 8:00 a.m. snow or shine at 2209 3rd Ave in Rock Island.  The registration fee of $22 will get you a shirt and soup and sandwich at the end of the 1.5-mile walk thanks to Hy-Vee.

Lexi Bull, Marketing and Events Specialist with Christian care says "I grew up in the Quad Cities and I was unaware of how many individuals in the Quad Cities experience poverty, food insecurity, or homelessness. Since beginning my job here I have been shocked by the number of individuals who are experiencing homelessness."

Sign up to walk today and help the Frigid Feet of the Quad Cities.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
