Two Davenport Car Theft Incident Gets 5 Juveniles Charged
The Davenport Police was busy early Wednesday morning as they were chasing juveniles in two separate car theft incidents. The oldest juveniles charged early Wednesday morning are just 14 years old.
In a press release on Wednesday, the Davenport Police Department said the five juveniles have been charged in relation to two overnight car theft incidents.
The first incident took place on Wednesday, June 16, at approximately 12:33 a.m. Officials say that Davenport Police observed a stolen Toyota Camry traveling at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and successfully deploy stop sticks. The vehicle stopped in the area of High St. and Eastern Ave. where the two occupants fled on foot.
Along with the Iowa State Patrol, Davenport Police established a perimeter and the two occupants were successfully apprehended. Upon investigation, the license plates had been spray painted to make them illegible.

The second incident only happened a few hours later early Wednesday morning. Officials say at approximately 3:07 a.m., Davenport Police observed a stolen Kia Sorento (stolen from Mercer County, IL) traveling at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour. The Iowa State Patrol located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit. Davenport Police Officers were able to successfully deploy stop sticks.
Heading Illinois bound on the Centennial Bridge, the vehicle slowed due to the tires becoming deflated. Units from the Iowa State Patrol and Davenport Police Department were able to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled eastbound on foot and was apprehended by officers.
Two other occupants were located in the vehicle. Upon investigation, the license plates had been spray painted to make them illegible.
Three juveniles were charged and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in relation to this incident. These are the details of the three juveniles and what they were charged with:
- 13-year-old male from Rock Island, IL - Theft 1st Degree, Interference with Official Acts
- 14-year-old male from Rock Island, IL - Theft 1st Degree and Possession of a controlled substance.
- 13-year-old, male from Rock Island, IL – Theft 1st Degree
