A Minnesota man spent nearly six months growing a 1,500-pound pumpkin...all for a good cause.

Charlie Bernstrom of Lancaster, MN, grew the gargantuan gourd in an effort to raise money for his county's Literacy Council. Spectators paid $1 per ticket for the opportunity to pull the cord and drop the pumpkin 80 feet onto the van.

All told, the stunt raised about $400, and Bernstrom aims to grow an even larger pumpkin next year.

“Hopefully I can get 1,700 or 1,800 pounds,” he told the Grand Forks Herald.
