Nutella. The declious, hazelnut-based treat. I first remember trying it after my relatives returned home from a trip to Germany. I'd never had anything like it! Is it chocolate?! Not quite.

Over the past couple years, it seems as if Nutella was just recently discovered by Americans. Check Buzzfeed any other day, and they'll sell you on some quiz about what you should do with Nutella if you're a single girl or what Disney princess is most likely to eat Nutella or HERE'S ANOTHER LIST. It's actually been around in the US since the 60s!

Also, I've been very wrong about Nutella's nutritional content. Let's play TRUE / FALSE with these statements about Nutella and see if you're as wrong as I was.

1.  Nutella only became available in the U.S. nine years ago.

FALSE  The current recipe has been around since 1963, and they've been selling it in the U.S. since 1983.

2.  Nutella is healthier than peanut butter.

FALSE Peanut butter has fewer calories, fewer carbs, more vitamins, and four times as much protein.

3.  The Italian company behind Nutella is the same company behind Tic Tacs.

TRUE  They're called Ferrero, and they came out with Tic Tacs in 1969.

4.  The name "Nutella" means "sweet nut."

TRUE  The "nut" part comes from English, and "ella" is the Latin suffix for "sweet."

5.  Nutella contains hazelnuts because they were the only nut the guy who invented it WASN'T allergic to.

FALSE  Chocolate was expensive after World War 2.  So they used hazelnuts as FILLER.  And it ended up giving Nutella its signature taste.

I thought Nutella was wayyyy healthy for so long. I feel like a liar.
