Sorry, Illinois QC residents.

You could soon be paying A LOT more at the pump.

According to WREX in Rockford, a new proposal from Illinois lawmakers would increase the state gas tax by 19 cents per gallon.

The reason for the massive tax hike? To help pay for transportation infrastructure repairs and purchase new trains for the state.

"The Chicago Tribune reports that Democratic Sen. Martin Sandoval of Chicago introduced the measure last week. It could raise an additional $2 billion in revenue annually and would be the state’s first gas tax increase since 1990."

The same bill also proposes raising fees for DMV services, like driver's licenses and registration.
