Argument Leads To Woman Getting Ran Over, Killed By Boyfriend In Bettendorf

A woman died in Bettendorf Tuesday night after being run over by her intoxicated boyfriend. The Bettendorf Police Department has identified a Goose Lake, Iowa man as the person who ran her over. He has been arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle.

The Bettendorf Police Department and news outlets throughout the Quad Cities have reported that Logan Paul Voss, 24 of Goose Lake, Iowa, was booked into the Scott County Jail on Wednesday morning at 1 a.m.

Voss was booked on the charges of homicide by vehicle - operating under the influence, a Class B felony, and operating while under the influence first offense, a serious misdemeanor, after allegedly running over his girlfriend in Bettendorf.

According to the affidavit from the Bettendorf Police Department:

At 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Bettendorf officers were dispatched to Sara Mini Mart, 931 State Street, for a report of a male that stopped a passerby and said he ran over his girlfriend. The male was identified as Voss.

In the arrest affidavit, police say that Voss said he was in a fight with his girlfriend, and he ran her over. He said he did not know where she was as he was not from the area.

Voss had blood on his clothes, boots, and hands, and he had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, unsteady balance, and had the odor of alcohol on his breath, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states that after officers asked multiple times, Voss could not say which direction he had come from and said he was going to prison. When asked again where his girlfriend was located, he said she was dead.

Officers located Voss's vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado K150, on 13th Street just north of Gilbert Street, according to police. A woman was on the ground behind the front passenger wheel with extensive blood surrounding her from an apparent head injury and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The affidavit says that no damage was observed on the vehicle’s body, and tire tracks on the scene indicated that she had been run over.

During questioning by Bettendorf Police, Voss admitted he drank six beers and two tequila shots in two hours at a Treehouse Pub, 2239 Kimberly Road, Bettendorf, prior to driving. Statements from witnesses and receipts from the Treehouse Pub confirm that Voss was present and had ordered the alcoholic beverages.

Voss also told police she was trying to exit the passenger compartment when he hit the brakes and ran over top of her.

Voss consented to a field sobriety test and while offices explained the walk-and-turn test, Voss stopped and "said he was done and to take him to jail." Voss refused to perform the walk-and-turn, the one-leg stand, and refused to consent to a preliminary breath test, according to the affidavit.

Voss was taken to Genesis East for a blood specimen withdrawal was taken by hospital staff after a search warrant was applied for and approved, according to the affidavit.

On Wednesday, the bond for Voss was set at $50,000 cash-only. A  preliminary hearing for Voss has been set for February 25. A Class B felony is punishable by 25 years in prison
