Iowa's Caitlin Clark Is The NCAA All-Time Leading Scorer...Period

Heading into Senior Day for the Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team, it was assumed that Caitlin Clark would break "Pistol" Pete Maravich's all-time leading scoring record.

On Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the end of the first half against the Ohio State Buckeyes at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa, Caitlin did it.

Caitlin Clark is now the all-time leading scorer in college basket ball history. Period.

She did it in an interesting way, not her typical 3-pointer. After a technical foul, Caitlin hit two free-throws heading into halftime to pass Pete Maravich by one points giving her 3,668 points. She has the Big Ten tournament and presumably the NCAA tournament to add on plenty of more points to this record.

Maravich set the all-time leading scoring record in an iconic career at LSU in just 3 years without a 3-point line and in just 83 games. Maravich played at LSU from '67-'70, but it was against the rules at the time for freshmen to play varsity.

It took Clark 130 games (including today's game against Ohio State) to break the record.

Breaking Lynette Woodard's Record

During a dominating performance against Minnesota on Wednesday, Feb. 28, Caitlin Clark became the all-time leading scorer in women's college basketball. Before the NCAA has women's basketball, Kansas Jayhawks legend Lynette Woodard held the record with 3,649 points. With her 8th 3-pointer of the night, Caitlin passed Woodard with 3,650 points.

Pearl Moore, who played at Francis Marion from 1975 to '79, is the AIAW small school/overall record holder at 3,884, according to ESPN. Clark could break that record, too.

Caitlin Declares For The WNBA

On Thursday, Feb. 29th, Caitlin announced that she would be declaring for the WNBA following this season. Clark is eligible to return to play college basketball for a fifth year since under the NCAA COVID-19 rules giving student-athletes a "COVID" year.

Caitlin is projected to No. 1 overall in the upcoming WNBA draft. The Indiana Fever has the first pick.

Caitlin Clark has had a very successful season. According to the University of Iowa's website, here are some of her highlights from this season.

She is first on the all-time NCAA WBB scoring list.
Surpassed the AIAW all-time leading scorer, Lynette Woodard, in her 129th career game against Minnesota on Feb. 28, 2024.
Surpassed the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, Kelsey Plum, in her 126th career game against Michigan on Feb. 15, 2024.
She is the only player in NCAA women’s basketball history to lead her conference in scoring and assists in four consecutive seasons.
She is the sixth player to ever amass 1,000+ career assists.
Clark is the first Division-I player to record 3,600+ points, 1,000+ assists, and 850+ rebounds in a career.

She is the third Big Ten and 15th NCAA women’s basketball player to eclipse 3,000 points in a career.
Clark is the all-time leader in 30+ point performances in men’s and women’s college basketball over the last 25 seasons. (54)
She has 19 career games with 30+ points and 10+ assists, no one in college women’s basketball in past 25 seasons has more than two such games. Five of those have come against ranked teams.
Since 2020-21, Clark has registered four 40-points performances against AP Top 10 teams. All other men or women’s basketball players have not done once.
Since 2009, no player has recorded more games of 35+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds. She has done it 18 times.
Has 61 career double-doubles, she is fourth on the Big Ten’s all-time list. She leads all Big Ten active players in career double-doubles.
Iowa is 8-4 when Clark records 40 or more points in her career.
In Clark’s 103rd game, she became Iowa’s all-time leading scorer.
Iowa is 17-0 when Clark registers a triple-double.
She has registered 40+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds six times in her career and three times against AP Top 25 opponents. Since her career began, the rest of Division I has three such games, period.
