Carver-Hawkeye Arena Cancels Friday’s Watch Party Because Of Storms
Because of severe storms in the forecast, Iowa's Carver-Hawkeye Arena has canceled a watch party for the women's basketball team.
According to our news partners at KWQC, the watch party was canceled due to the forecast of severe weather. The Iowa Hawkeye women's basketball team will take on the South Carolina Gamecocks at 8:30 p.m. in the Final Four in Dallas.
The watch party was planned to be a free event.
Severe Weather In Iowa & Illinois
It's terrible timing for the watch party. There is a heightened threat for severe storms in Iowa and Illinois on Friday afternoon, specifically from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
Strong and damaging winds are a threat with this system and strong tornadoes are possible.
Iowa In The Final Four
Meanwhile it's a historic year for Iowa Hawkeyes and their guard Caitlin Clark. Clark was just named Naismith Player of the Year and in the matchup Friday, she will be going against another QC native, Brea Beal from Rock Island, who plays for the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Caitlin Clark is the first player in regular season history with over 900 points and 300 assists. She recorded a triple-double in the Big Ten Championship. And she is the first player in Men's or Women's tournament history to record a 40-point triple-double. And she is only a Junior at the University of Iowa.
Even though it stinks that the watch party at Carver-Hawkeye Arena has been canceled (thanks weather), you can still catch the game Friday at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN.
