United Airlines Flight Out Of Chicago Diverted After Attempted Hijack
If there's one place you don't want to act a fool, it's anywhere involving air travel.
We've had plenty of stories already this year about unruly passengers forcing a plane into an emergency landing somewhere, which is normally the result of a mental episode or a major personality flaw.
One flight out of Chicago O'Hare on Friday resulted in one passenger's arrest once they landed.
TSA may have to start scanning personalities too. On Friday, a flight headed to Minneapolis had to land in Wisconsin because one dude tried to storm the cockpit.
The flight was supposed to just be a routine 2-hour flight.
And it was until mid-flight, an unidentified male passenger started "ranting in Russian" and tried to shove his way into the cockpit, causing a struggle on the plane.
During the event, the pilot used the squawk code 7500, which is the Air Traffic Control code for a plane hijacking. ATC says the code allows the pilots to contact them discreetly. Their website says:
What happens after this code is transmitted varies, but usually, security forces tend to get involved. The process, which is depicted in movies and TV, is an escort by military aircraft and authorities may also be waiting upon arrival.
United says there were 147 passengers onboard and no one was injured from the incident.
Security forces and authorities did get involved and dude here was arrested and taken into custody. There's no word on his identity or what specific charges he could be facing but it can't be good.
