Could School Corporal Punishment Be Coming to the Quad Cities?
Before you get too fired up, just know, school corporal punishment is not legal in Illinois or Iowa. However, it has been heard through the grapevine that some of our representatives aren't completely opposed to it. Further more, there was a recent survey that took place in Illinois and Iowa, and a shocking 35% said they are for corporal punishment in schools! This was a survey that went out to people over the age of 18, not all people who polled were parents.
This all sounds crazy to some of you I'm sure, but there are many schools in the US that still practice this. In fact, most states and schools that allow this have approval from parents. Also, In Texas and one state away in Missouri, they are making stricter rules and allowing more and more kids to be paddled and punished.
A couple of quick stats for you. Boys are 5 times more likely to be paddled than a girl. 20% of kids who are paddled have a mental condition. Crazy right?
I know I'm not for it. Hopefully this stays far away from us. Unfortunately, it isn't. We are surrounded by stated who allow it. Keep your eyes peeled!
