The Quad Cities can expect the first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine this week.

According to KWQC, the Rock Island Health Department will get 1,000 doses and the Scott County Health Department will receive 2,000 doses. Each health department will distribute vaccines between Genesis Health Systems and UnityPoint-Trinity.

KWQC also reports that Genesis will be the first to administer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in the QC. That will happen today at 10 a.m. at Genesis Convenient Care in Davenport.

Health experts are stressing the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine and say when it's our time to receive the shot we can expect some side effects like headache, chills, or fever. Those side effects should dissipate in a day or two.

Experts are recommending the vaccine and say even if a person is healthy, the vaccine protects you and others.
