We've got good news and bad news.

If you own a pet, there's a good chance you have some kind of documentation on it, whether it's their adoption papers or latest vet bill (*cries at cost*).

If you adopted your pet, it has likely been microchipped, meaning it has a little chip in it to help you find it, should it ever get lost. This week, a huge pet microchipping company has closed it's doors which will mean you need to check what brand your pet's microchip is immediately.

But first, good news on pet paperwork.

The Humane Society of Scott County is making it easier for pet owners to buy their annual pet licenses by doing so online. All cats and dogs in Davenport have to have their rabies vaccine and be licensed.

They've partnered with DocuPet, which allows the pet owner to also get "complimentary HomeSafe® 24/7 lost pet service, an effective pet identification and reunification program that helps get pets back home safely".

If this is reminding you to get the pet license chore done, you can visit hssc.docupet.com.

Now for the bad news.

Pet Microchipping Company Ceases Operations

Microchips are normal in most pets and they're proven useful to help pets be found. But you need to check what company your pet's microchip is registered with ASAP. Save This Life microchip company has closed.

You can check this link to see what company your pet's microchip is registered with. It's a good idea to get done before they're outside more in warmer weather.

If your furball gets lost and has that microchip, they could be untraceable. When animals are found, they're brought to a vet to see if they are microchipped, and to whom the microchip is registered to.

Other common pet microchip companies are AKC Reunite, HomeAgain, and AVID.

These may seem like things you just don't need added to your list of things to do, but it's a good idea to make sure your animals are taken care of in 2025 too.
