What would you do if you took your kiddos on vacation and got a letter from the school threatening truancy because 'family vacation' doesn't fall under 'excused absences?'I understand school policies and not making exceptions for one family over another. However, some of things cannot be measured by rules and enforcements. Some situations deserve common sense application and the circumstances deserve paying attention to. Not all things in life will be learned in a classroom. The best teachers I know agree with that. Heck, most teachers I know would be THRILLED to have this kind of insight and involvement this father (parents) has with his children.

What he fired back to the principal is nothing shy of priceless. In his letter, he lays out for the principal what his children did learn while on vacation those missed days. If you asked me, I'd say he was a homeschooling parent! (That's how we talk, ya know! psst..I homeschooled my kiddos for many years)

All-in-all, we know not every important lesson in life is learned in an institutionalized setting. This rings true for all students, young or old. One of the best lessons in life I have ever learned is that we never stop learning. Life is our teacher and our lesson.
