Dating apps don't need another reason to suck.

If you've been on really any dating app for any amount of time, you know it's awful. The people you talk to are a few bricks shy of a load and the profiles the app recommends for you really make you reevaluate your life choices.

Now, the FTC has filed a lawsuit against OkCupid and it's corporate affiliate, which is a subsidiary of Match Group Inc., the parent company of Tinder, Hinge, and Match.com.

Currently, the lawsuit focuses on OkCupid.

Back in September 2014, OkCupid snuck 3 million user pics (along with demographics and locations) to an unrelated tech company called Clarifai, Inc. The FTC alleges that OkCupid's founders had personally invested in Clarifai and leaked the info as a favor to the startup, not involving any kind of business arrangement.

So at the time, OkCupid's privacy policy told people on the app that the company wouldn't share their personal information: "except as indicated in this Privacy Policy or when we inform you and give you an opportunity to opt out". But it had exceptions to this, like business partners, companies within OkCupid corporate, and service providers. Even still, Clarifai fit none of that.

The FTC says OkCupid users were never given the opportunity to opt out of this data share.

Next, the FTC says OkCupid tried for 10 years to cover up the leak.

Now, the whole company (including the part that also owns Tinder, Hinge, and Match.com) are being cracked down on when it comes to their privacy policies and cannot make false claims about how they gather, use, or protect things like pictures or location data.

The bottom line: don't send the spicy pictures on the apps. It's not worth it.
