Eastern Iowa School Nurse Recognized For Helping Kids Learn About Conditions, Supporting Families

The Spring 2025 semester is rolling on. So of course, we went out with our awesome program with Famous Dave's to honor and reward an awesome Quad Cities teacher.

It's now time to announce this week's B100 & Famous Dave's QC Teacher of the Week!

Congrats to Kelly Cypher, school nurse at Paul Norton Elementary in Bettendorf!

Kelly was nominated by Donna Carlson, who also called for the district therapy dog, Garvey, to be honored too:

Kelly Cypher is the school nurse at Paul Norton Elementary in Bettendorf. She works with students from kindergarten through 5th grade. Even though nurses are teachers in the same capacity as someone Teaching reading, math or science, school nurses educate staff, students and families to keep kids safe at school, to learn about their medical conditions and to build independence as kids grow during their school years. Kelly does all of that! Kelly goes above and beyond to meet the needs of students and keep them safe while they learn. She is excellent at working with diabetic students and other major medical diagnoses as well as supporting families as they deal with difficult medical conditions. She is intelligent and skillful as a nurse and is an advocate for kids with medical needs in our school system. She supports and covers for other nurses if there are absences in our district. Kelly is also the owner/handler of one of the district therapy dogs, Garvey. Garvey and Kelly make a spectacular team and Kelly makes sure that Garvey is accessible to our students and available in places Garvey is needed to support those with special circumstances. Kelly and Garvey have willingly shown up to help other nurses in our district when she saw a need. Kelly (and Garvey) absolutely deserves this recognition.
