There are plenty of pets in the Quad Cities who are looking for a forever home. But sometimes fees can deter a family from adopting a dog or a cat. To encourage people in the Quad Cities to adopt a pet who have wanted one to add to their family, a Quad Cities humane society is participating in a nationwide adoption event that reduces adoption fees.

If your family has wanted to add a furry family member but adoption fees were getting in the way, the time to adopt a cat or dog for a lower price is coming up. The Scott County Humane Society, along with more than 275 shelters across the country, is participating in a nationwide adoption event called Empty the Shelters.

Empty the Shelters is returning and it is a chance to adopt a pet from your local animal shelter, including right here in the Quad Cities, for a lower price. Beginning May 2 and ending May 8, BISSELL Pet Foundation is sponsoring Empty the Shelters to reduce adoption fees to $25 or less per dog or cat to help these pets find loving homes.

Empty the Shelters is BISSELL Pet Foundation's largest program. They are asking people in each participating shelter's community for support to keep it going and growing. Those who are unable to adopt can give to the ETS fund, where 100% of contributions will help a shelter pet find a forever home.

Three humane societies in the Quad Cities and surrounding area are participating in the BISSELL Pet Foundation Empty the Shelters adoption event.

The BISSELL Pet Foundation says that each participating organization will follow its adoption process and ask that you do research and be prepared before heading to your local humane society to adopt a pet.

See below the list of local humane societies participating in this year's event and each shelter's standard practice:

Since 2016, over 83,000 pets across 45 states and in Canada have been adopted due to Empty the Shelters.
