Former Quad City television meteorologist Terry Swails has been hospitalized at University of Iowa Hospitals since at least Tuesday night.

Swails has an unknown bacterial infection in his bones.

"He is also going to be signed up for a procedure called a trans esophageal echo test.  It uses a long, thin, flexible instrument that is guided down the throat for a closer look at the heart.   There is a concern the bacteria may have invaded the valves of Terry’s heart," wrote Swails' wife, former Quad City news personality, Carolyn Wettstone on his website, TSwails.com.

Despite being given pain killers, Swails was 'in such unprecedented pain," wrote Wettstone. His body temperature even reached upwards of 103°.

He is expected to be at University hospitals through the weekend until possibly Monday, until doctors can identify the bacteria and that his blood is bacteria free.

Swails was chief meteorologist at KWQC in Davenport, before becoming chief meteorologist at WQAD in Moline.

He now works at KGAN CBS2/ Fox 28 in the Cedar Rapids-Waterloo-Dubuque-Iowa City area.
