The Geneseo Police Department, City Hall and some surrounding residence were evacuated Wednesday afternoon after a pipe bomb was found in a car that had been towed to the Geneseo Police Department garage.

The incident began when law enforcement arrested Jeffery Blunk who was wanted for multiple felonies.  His vehicle was towed to the police department garage.  After being towed, the Illinois State Police obtained a search warrant for the vehicle.  During the search, police discovered an explosive device.

Around 1:25 on Wednesday afternoon the Geneseo Police Department, City Hall and multiple residences in the area were evacuated and the Quad Cities Bomb Squad was activated.

The bomb squad recovered one pipe bomb, smokeless power and cannon fuses.  The items were contained and taken from the area to be destroyed.

Workers and residence were able to return to the area around 4:45pm.
