This Saturday (June 11), there will be a peaceful, family-friendly rally hosted by March For Our Lives Iowa in Davenport.

It will be from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Vander Veer Botanical Park.

This comes after the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas that left 21 people dead, as well as the shooting at the supermarket in Buffalo, NY and shootings in areas near us, like Cedar Rapids, Ames, Roosevelt High School, and Des Moines East High School.

The March For Our Lives Iowa event on Saturday will be peaceful and allow people to "gather in unity to demonstrate our solidarity with the victims, their families, and all those who wish to no longer live in fear of gun violence", according to the Facebook event.

The "Right to Keep and Bear Arms" Amendment is slated for the Iowa general election ballot in November. If passed, it adds the federal right to own and bear firearms to the Iowa state constitution. Alleged violations of the right will be brought before the court in "strict scrutiny". March For Our Lives Iowa advocates for the failure of the amendment and calls upon the state of Iowa, Gov. Kim Reynolds and state legislators, and Congress to act.

March For Our Lives began after the 2018 Parkland school shooting in Florida. The group will march in Washington, D.C. this Saturday as well, calling on President Biden and lawmakers to make changes.

The Facebook event for the QC march says that the event here will be an "entirely peaceful and cooperative demonstration that welcomes families and people of all ages".
