This is a huge step in the right direction for the LGBTQ community.

A bill was passed in Illinois that will allow a third gender option at the DMV when you go to get, renew or replace your driver's license. H.B. 3534 was signed into law on August 23, 2019.

This will allow the 'non binary' gender option to be a choice on your physical license. Instead of 'male' or 'female' being the word next to 'Sex:' there will be an 'X.'

According to KWQC.com

"The law will allow drivers to choose "male," "female" or "non-binary" when defining their sex.

Illinois joins 14 other states and the District of Columbia in adding a gender-neutral option to licenses and state IDs."

This change will go into effect January 1, 2020.
