If you're a vegan in Iowa and you want to be surrounded by vegans in the state, don't hold your breath.

We know Iowa has a lot of pigs. The most recent reading from December found hogs outnumber humans over 7:1 in Iowa.

It could be because of this that Iowa is one of the least likely states in the country to go vegan. Corn is great but you gotta love some good barbecue, right?

Where Iowa Ranks

A study by Gambling.com looked at which states would be the most likely and least likely to go vegan. To do this, they analyzed Google search volumes, vegan vs. meat money savings per pound, and also vegan restaurants and vegan meetup groups per million people.

Iowa comes in as the 6th least likely state to become vegan. Our vegan interest score in the study was 23.0, our vegan vs. meat savings score was 18.3, our vegan restaurants' score was 8.1, and our vegan meetup groups' score was 40.8. So out of 100, our total vegan score was 22.6.

I blame the fried pork tenderloins at the fair. Those will again ruin my non-existent vegan diet.

But if you're an Iowan and want to try the vegan thing, Illinois may be a good place for you. Illinois came in at number 11 on the states most likely to become vegan. They got a 45.2 on vegan interest score, 69.3 on vegan vs. meat savings score, 63.2 on vegan restaurants score, and 73.4 on vegan meetup groups. That puts their total out of 100 at 62.8. Definitely higher vegan odds than Iowa.
