Popular Iowa Sandwich Shop Closing Restaurant Permanently
Another popular restaurant and deli shop in Eastern Iowa announced its closing its doors and the closure is happening very soon.
If you're a fan of Meatball's Sandwich Co. (and who isn't?) in Bettendorf, you'll need to get your sandwich fix sooner rather than later because goodbyes are happening this week.
"It's Time To Say Goodbye."
Early Wednesday morning, Kyle and Rachel Yohe, owners of Meatball's Sandwich Company (2317 Cumberland Square Drive, Bettendorf) announced that the restaurant will be closing its doors permanently.
In the social media post, the Yohes said, "It's time to say goodbye." Opening the doors to Meatball's Sandwich Company on May 10, 2021, the popular Bettendorf deli shop has been a part of some controversy that had the Quad Cities talking.
Quad Cities Pickle Wrap War Of 2021
In May of 2021, all anyone in the Quad Cities could talk about was pickle wraps and Meatball's Sandwich Company was at the heart of the great pickle wrap war. One of the items on Meatball's menu is pickle wraps. QC Local made this post promoting the new business in June 2021.
That same month, Meatball's Sandwich Company posted on social media a partnership with Cavort QC to raise money for the River Bend Food Bank and featured the controversial pickle wraps. Another local business owner didn't like that too much and the great pickle wrap war ensued. Refresh your brain here.
There were also some talks of a second Meatball's location opening in Davenport.
Bettendorf Deli Shop Closing This Weekend
In the social media post announcing its closure, the Yohes said that the restaurant portion of Meatball's Sandwich Company is closing but they aren't totally going away. Here is what the rest of the announcement said:
"It’s with a heavy heart that we must announce that we will be closing down our restaurant operations effective this Saturday, November 11th. We will continue to offer catering & pre-orders.
We have tried our best to overcome all of the obstacles that the restaurant industry has faced but we’re unable to withstand the challenges.
We sincerely appreciate all of our customers that have supported us over the last couple of years. What a journey it has been!"
It's sad to see another Quad Cities business close its doors.
We wish the Yohe family the best in their future endeavors.
