Prepare For Delays On The I-280 Bridge Next Week
If crossing the river on I-280 is on your plan for next week, you need to know about some road work.
According to KWQC, road work will start on the bridge (also known as the Sergeant John F. Baker Jr. Bridge) next week. On Monday there will be a lane closure on the I-280 bridge so crews can inspect it.
The westbound right lane will close first and will remain closed Monday & Tuesday from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
The eastbound right lane will close on Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
You're advised to prepare for delays during these times. If you're planning to travel for Spring Break or you cross I-280 often, it's probably a good idea to leave early or go ahead and plan an alternate route if you can.
It's Road Construction Season
The drawback of warmer weather is that it cues road construction season, which has officially started in Davenport. Of course, I'm not sure it actually really ever ended.
This is far from the first time that there's been work on the bridge. The new work on the I-280 bridge comes after a 3-year deck replacement and resurfacing project on the bridge, which also resulted in some lane closures and wrapped up last year.
Before you head out on your Spring Break travels, you can see current road construction projects on Iowa DOT's map here and check out current traffic conditions so you don't lose your mind with the fam in the car on this map.
