Just to be clear, you can still buy a single drink at a bar, but not a single serving at a liquor or convenience store in the city of Moline.

According to our news partners Local 4 WHBF, you have to buy more than 48 ounces of alcohol to consider it now a single serving.

City officials of Moline say the ordinance, is needed to address the city public intoxication problem. It has been in place for a month and they also say it will enforce public safety. The ordinance also applies to single serving airplane servings of liquor like vodka and tequila, or shooters as people refer to them as.

From Local 4's interview with Detective Jon Leach of the Moline Police Department, Leach says, “For the most part we’re just trying to detour the public drinking, and the public intoxication, the one can here and there. We had some traffic accidents where pedestrians have been hit, it’s more public safety ”

Local 4 News also spoke with Hari Poduel, Owner of C U Food and Liquor says, “The city is trying to do a good thing, but this is not the way it should be handled.”

He also mentioned that there are other liquor stores in neighboring cities that are allowed to sell single served alcohol. He has already lost customers due to the new alcohol law in the city and knows that there will be a negative impact on his business due to the new law.

As mentioned before, you can still go to any bar or restaurant and order drinks. City officials want to limit people walking into a convince or liquor store, grabbing a beer, and walking around the streets
