It's still summer but kids around the Quad Cities need your help to get them ready to begin a new school year this fall.

The First Day Project is dedicated to helping students who require help get the school supplies they need for their classes. According to the organization, about 24,000 students in the Quad Cities are from families that have a low enough income to qualify them for free & reduced waivers for fees and school meals. In fact, in some QC schools, that can account for 70% of students. So the First Day Project seeks to help students go into the first day of school supplied and ready to go.

They're looking for your standard school supplies. Here's what you can grab extra of next time you're out:

• Pencil boxes
• Pocket folders
• Pens
• Crayons
• Glue sticks
• Composition notebooks
• Tissues
• Backpacks
• Scissors
• Erasers
• Washable markers
• Watercolor paints

Where To Donate

You have several options of where to drop off your school supply donations. Here's the list of places accepting First Day Project donations through the month of July:

If you want to help out First Day Project, you'll need to get on it. The businesses are accepting dropoff donations until July 29th, and the schools are accepting them until July 30th. If you would rather donate to First Day Project monetarily, you can do that through the Quad Cities Community Foundation either via check or a donation at this link.
