Strict New Gun Laws Coming To Illinois in 2019

Take note if you're interested in buying a firearm anytime soon- Illinois gun laws are about to change.

According to WQAD, starting January 1, 2019, anyone purchasing a gun in the state will have a three day waiting period.

"According to the Office of Senator Neil Anderson, the first law titled “SB 3256/PA 100-0606”  Creates a 72-hour waiting period on all firearms, not just handguns."

Additionally, the bill eliminates a waiting period exemption for residents of other states who purchase firearms at Illinois gun shows.

Another law allows family members to remove a gun from a person's possession if they deem another family member to be a safety threat.

This would include anyone who:

“poses a significant danger of causing personal injury to himself/herself or another by having in his/her custody or control, owning, purchasing, possessing or receiving a firearm."
