Warmer Weather To Bring Rain, Fog And Freezing Rain To Illinois
After dealing with brutally cold temperatures and over two feet of snow dumped on us in a two-week timeframe, it's finally time we get above freezing. That's going to happen in Illinois next week and we're here for it.
But that "warmer" weather won't come without a small price. Warmer temperatures and snow on the ground typically means fog and lots of it. We also have several chances of active weather next week which means rain and possibly freezing rain.
Warmer temperatures and rain leads to melting snow which could bring flooding. It's nice to have warm weather but we're in for a little chaos along with it.
Above-normal Temperatures In The Midwest
You wanted warmer weather, you're getting warmer weather. The weather experts at NOAA are predicting in the 6-10 day temperature outlook that we'll have above normal temperatures next week.
And that warmer weather looks like it's going to carry into February as well.
The 8-14 day outlook has Illinois, Iowa, and the Quad Cities area above-normal temperatures through the first day of February.
Rain, Fog, & Freezing Rain With Warmer Temps
The warmer weather doesn't come without a price though. We'll see active weather for sure to start the week but there is a good chance it will be a wet week in general with some freezing rain in there too.
There will be another system arriving Monday with a potential for mixed precipitation in the Quad Cities area. Officials aren't sure how much warm air will be present above us to determine if we'll see rain, sleet, or a rain/snow mix.
Our friends with the First Alert Weather team at TV6 and at the National Weather Service of the Quad Cities agree that temperatures will be slightly above freezing next week. They also agree that there is a chance rain every day next week.
Depending on how much warm air moves in, also expect plenty of fog in the morning and possibly throughout the day. With all of this snow cover and recent extremely cold temps, the ground is really cold. That mixed with warm air, rain, sleet, and everything else sounds like an exciting week to stay home.
