Multiple Pets Found Dead After Fire At Eastern Iowa Business
We have an update about a fire at an Eastern Iowa business Thursday.
Davenport Fire Marshal Jim Morris said in a press release, that on February 4th at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Davenport Fire Department responded to the 2300 block of W. River Drive for the report of a structure fire. Five suppression units and one Command vehicle were initially dispatched with two additional units and another Command vehicle responding later in the scene for a total of 23 personnel assigned to the incident.
While responding to the scene, Scott County Communication dispatchers advised they were receiving multiple 911 calls stating there was smoke coming from the roof of the Credit Island Bait Shop.
Upon arrival, it was noted that the combination of commercial business and residential structure had heavy smoke conditions coming from the attic on all sides. Crews entered the building with hose lines to initiate an aggressive interior attack while additional crews searched for any potential victims.
It was noted that all occupants had exited the structure without any injuries. The main body of fire was controlled within 45 minutes.
Due to the interior configuration of the building construction and fire extension, many areas needed to be checked for hot spots with continued extinguishment. It took approximately three hours before the building could be turned back over to the owner.
No injuries to civilians or fire personnel were noted, but unfortunately, multiple pets were found deceased.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Any additional information related to this incident will be released by the Fire Marshal.
