Davenport Woman Wins Her Second Big Lottery Prize In About Two Years
Some people are just born really lucky and it seems that one of them lives in Davenport.
Mary Starks from Davenport has won her second lottery prize of $100,000. The last time she won, it was the same amount in March 2020. Both times the money was won from a scratch-off. Oh to be that lucky.
This time around, she won off of the 'Hit It Big!' scratch game, claiming the first top prize that's available in the game. She bought the winning ticket at ExpressLane, 321 N. Division St. in Davenport.
She told the Iowa Lottery:
It was exciting and kind of scary and unbelievable. Really unbelievable to have it happen twice. You just think that you’ll win a little bit – maybe, $20, $30, $50, $100, you know? But not $100,000. You just buy the tickets for a little entertainment. And then when you scratch it off and get that amount of money? I don’t know, it’s exciting.
I don't think I'll ever know that excitement. But Starks said that she plans to pay off debt and maybe start a business with her winnings.
What Are The Odds?
It's hard to narrow down what exactly the odds would be for winning big prizes on scratch-offs more than once because each lottery has independent odds. But a Harvard statistics professor told CNBC that winning more than once doesn't increase your odds. Of course, what can give you a better chance to win is buying more tickets.
This win comes two days after a woman from Bettendorf won $50,000 from a scratch-off ticket. And we all know about the lucky streak that the Quad Cities has had this summer.
