B100’s Pet of the Week: Adopt Rio and Edison
It's pretty hot this week to be worrying about taking a pup for a walk or if the cat will get out. In days like these, low maintenance pets are more appealing than ever. And trust me, Rio and Edison are low maintenance.
Say hello to our newest friends (Rio is on the left, and Edison is on the right):
Despite his name, Rio is actually Peruvian! Apparently, guinea pigs actually come from Peru, not from New Guinea, which is a bit mind-boggling. But hey, the more you know!
Guinea pigs are a pretty easy first pet. They don't require tons of attention, but they do need to be socialized. The more you stroke them – and hold them, if they'll let you – the more comfortable they'll be with you.
Our advice: don't keep them in a home with dogs; if you do, keep them very separate. You can meet Rio and Edison in person at the Humane Society of Scott County!
